A Dog's Purpose
Written by former sixth-grade student Adeline Baldengro

Bark, Bark, Bark, are the sounds you hear in my favorite book, A Dog's Purpose.  This is a story about a dog named Bailey finding his way back to his owner Ethan and how the two can understand one another's purpose in life.  This is an awesome book and I highly recommend as a must read. I guarantee the story will make you laugh and cry!

Bailey is a dog that is black, has brown eyes, and a little black nose. Bailey is always happy and excited to see his boy Ethan. Bailey is always quite joyful, playful, confident, determined, and most of all loving. Bailey lived four long and very different lives. In his first life, he was a fearful dog who stayed in the shadows, scared and feeling very lonely. His second life was happy, his third life was serious, and then finally in his fourth life is happy (Bailey is still alive in his fourth life).

In the book Bailey has a conflict and his conflict is that he keeps dying then becoming reborn after each death. After his conflict is resolved, upon his last rebirth Bailey finds his master Ethan which makes him feel beyond happy, he is ecstatic!

The exposition happens when Bailey becomes abandoned, he then realizes he recognizes a place and it's where he lived/lives on a farm. Bailey finds Ethan after each rebirth because by now, even though he is a puppy at this point, he has gained more and more knowledge from past experiences. After an exhausting search, suddenly Bailey sniffs Ethan's sent, runs to the farm, and lives happily ever after with his master Ethan and Ethan's sister Hanna.

After reading the book, I learned that A Dog's Purpose is a very teaching book about a man’s true best friend. It does not have to be a dog; it can be anyone that can be true best friends or family members.

This book changes what I had thought about friendship. I think a true best friend is one who is kind, loyal and trustworthy, whether it's a person or man's best friend.
